Background of En-ROADS?

Developed by Climate Interactive, the MIT Sloan Sustainability Initiative, and Ventana Systems, the En-ROADS Climate Simulator is an online systems dynamics model built on the best available scientific evidence. It’s calibrated using a wide range of integrated assessment, energy, and climate models.
En-ROADS is rooted in systems thinking and reflects the interconnected nature of climate, economy, energy, and equity. It enables users to explore how different policies interact - offering a fast, visual way to understand what really moves the needle on climate outcomes.

How Does the Workshop Work?

The En-ROADS Climate Workshop is a collaborative, scenario-based session led by a trained facilitator. It equips participants—whether policymakers, educators, business leaders or teams—with the tools to explore climate policy in real time.
Using the interactive simulator, groups can test a wide range of solutions—from carbon pricing and energy efficiency to fossil fuel taxes, reforestation, innovation support, and carbon removal technologies.
The session helps participants:
  • Understand the systems dynamics behind climate change
  • Identify high-impact, equitable solutions
  • Build shared understanding for strategy and action
This is not a passive presentation - it’s a dynamic, participatory workshop that brings climate choices to life.

Benefits of an En-ROADS Workshop

The En-ROADS Climate Workshop facilitates connections between participants' values and actionable solutions to ensure a resilient future. Users quickly observe how various global climate policies and actions—such as electrifying transportation, pricing carbon, and enhancing agricultural practices—affect crucial factors like energy prices, temperature, air quality, and sea level rise.
Peer-reviewed studies indicate that those who engage with En-ROADS feel empowered, gaining improved understanding and connectivity regarding climate issues. Government offices, classrooms, and corporate boardrooms worldwide have witnessed how testing alternate scenarios inspires individuals to take action. Experience with En-ROADS transforms participants’ perspectives on climate change, fostering deeper emotional connections to the issue. These interactive workshops equip participants with essential insights, encourage new perspectives, and instill grounded hope, all within an enjoyable and engaging format.
