EXPLORE organisational strategy within Ecological Limits
As businesses navigate a future shaped by climate disruption, resource constraints, and shifting social expectations, the imperative to operate within the planet’s ecological boundaries is becoming a core strategic challenge.
The Doughnut Economics framework offers more than alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - it provides a clear, systems-based lens to help organisations rethink value, navigate complexity, and respond to uncertainty in a rapidly changing world.
Uncertainty often breeds anxiety, leading to short-term thinking and suboptimal decisions. So how can your organisation stay focused, adaptive, and resilient through change?
EcoProsper Consulting’s Doughnut Design for Business workshops bring clarity and a fresh strategic lens. Grounded in the methodology developed by economist Kate Raworth’s Doughnut Economics Action Lab - and based on her internationally recognised Doughnut Economics model - these sessions support teams to align with social and ecological realities, reduce risk, and build confidence in the face of future challenges.
Whether you’re a for-profit enterprise or a mission-driven organisation, these workshops help leaders explore what it means to operate regeneratively and distributively – and to reimagine business as a force for long-term wellbeing.

UNDERSTANDING the Doughnut Economics framework
Doughnut Economics offers a bold and practical vision for 21st-century prosperity - one in which human wellbeing is achieved within ecological limits. It challenges organisations to move beyond extractive, business-as-usual models toward regenerative and distributive ways of operating.
At the heart of the model are two concentric rings:
At the heart of the model are two concentric rings:
- A social foundation: Informed by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this inner ring ensures everyone has access to life’s essentials - such as food, education, healthcare, housing, and political voice.
- An ecological ceiling: Defined by the Stockholm Resilience Centre’s Planetary boundaries framework, this outer ring identifies nine critical Earth-system thresholds, including climate, biodiversity, land use, and freshwater. It is an increasingly adopted science-based model - broader than climate alone - guiding organisations to operate within the limits that sustain life on Earth.
The space between these two rings forms the Doughnut: a safe and just space where humanity - and business - can thrive.
First introduced by economist Kate Raworth in a 2012 Oxfam discussion paper, the Doughnut gained global attention through her 2017 book Doughnut Economics: Seven Ways to Think Like a 21st-Century Economist. Since then, it has influenced city governments, corporate boardrooms, faith leaders, and grassroots movements, inspiring a global shift toward new economic paradigms.
EcoProsper Consulting helps translate these ideas into action. Our facilitated sessions use Doughnut Economics Action Lab’s Doughnut Design for Business tool - a strategic workshop method developed specifically for organisations. This includes not only the private sector, but also purpose-led enterprises and not-for-profit organisations looking to explore organisational strategy within planetary boundaries.
